Section 1. Our Company’s Founding

4. The Establishment of Osaka Building

Ujigawa Electric Power and Nippon Electric Power decided to accept the offer made by O.S.K. Lines, and on October 9, 1923, the company Osaka Building Co., Ltd. (hereinafter, “Osaka Building”) was established as a joint venture of the three companies. The following eight people initiated the new company.

  • The building permit for the Daibiru-Honkan Building

Toraji Inoue (from O.S.K. Lines, president of Tomijimagumi)
Yoshizo Ikeo (from O.S.K. Lines, senior managing director at Nippon Electric Power)
Yasushige Hayashi (from O.S.K. Lines, managing director at Ujigawa Electric Power)
Keijiro Hori (president of O.S.K. Lines)
Shozo Murata (senior managing director at O.S.K. Lines)
Shitagau Noguchi (president of Nippon Chisso Hiryo K.K.)
Juntaro Yamaoka (from O.S.K. Lines, chairman of Osaka Iron Works, president of Nippon Electric Power)
Kiyoshi Kimura (from O.S.K. Lines, president of Ujigawa Electric Power)

Of its 3 million yen capitalization, 1.5 million yen came from O.S.K. Lines, 1 million yen came from Ujigawa Electric Power, and 500,000 yen came from Nippon Electric Power.

The head office at the time of establishment was located at the O.S.K. Lines head office building at the premises of 64 Tomijima-cho, Kita-ku, Osaka.

Because the temporary construction department at O.S.K. Lines was proceeding with building construction under the name of O.S.K. Lines, an application was sent to the Osaka prefectural government naming Osaka Building as the building’s owner. That application was approved on February 20, 1924. Furthermore, a property lease agreement was signed with O.S.K. Lines for the site where the new building was to be constructed. This was a major step in the construction project for this building.

This was how Daibiru began.
